[01 May 2008|02:30pm] el paso is very clear and haunting. it didn't feel as bad as i used to give it credit for being, but i guess i was really only there for a little over a week. you can see really far in every direction and as beautiful as i find that, something about it kind of confuses and frightens me a bit. every place that doesn't have mountains is completely flat, kind of like looking around you from the center of a diamond ring.  i spent as much time as i could with my family. the trip was supposed to be therapeutic and was successful in that way. i needed to make amends and build new bridges to carry me out of the trenches of the past. my dad, without being confronted or prompted, apologized for all the shit he had put me through in the past. to me, that's something huge. any time i would try to face the stresses in my life, my mind would wander back to how strained my relationship with my family was. i felt that i wouldn't be able to emotionally mature without clearing the air. what a difference 10 days can make... i skipped out on the ride to new orleans, opting instead to try to make the family thing work without being rushed and to allow myself time to figure out where to go next. after fighting it for so long, i'm back in san francisco. i decided that if i love it so much, i should just try to make it work. i'm still trying to work out some details, (read: i have no place to live yet and few places to stay), but i feel good about returning. i told myself to just come here with no plans in mind and to focus on living here and nothing else, but my mind works overtime; the current plan is to stay here for a year and if i'm not doing the things i dream of, i'll head back to the desert (tucson). 1 comment|post comment
